Construction Superintendent

Position Overview: The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations on the job site, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as extensive experience in managing construction projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight:
    • Supervise and manage the construction process from pre-construction to project completion.
    • Ensure all construction activities are completed according to project specifications, drawings, and schedules.
    • Coordinate and manage subcontractors, vendors, and workers on-site (subcontractors and James S. Jackson Company Employees.
    • Inspect work to ensure compliance with quality standards and building codes.
    • James S. Jackson self-performs Concrete, Steel Erection and General Trades
  • Safety Management:
    • Enforce safety protocols and ensure the job site is in compliance with OSHA regulations.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and site inspections to mitigate hazards.
    • Maintain a safe and productive work environment for all staff and subcontractors.
  • Schedule Management:
    • Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring milestones are met.
    • Resolve delays or issues that may impact the timeline.
    • Track and report progress to the project manager and other stakeholders.
  • Quality Control:
    • Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship on-site.
    • Address and resolve any quality control issues promptly.
  • Budget and Cost Management:
    • Ensure project costs are kept within budget by monitoring expenses and reporting variances.
    • Coordinate material deliveries and ensure accurate project material takeoffs.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication:
    • Maintain open lines of communication with clients, project managers, architects, and engineers.
    • Provide daily/weekly project updates and attend regular project meetings as needed.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and supervise on-site personnel, including laborers, subcontractors, and other construction staff.
    • Foster a positive team environment that encourages collaboration and excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
    • Experience in managing municipal water/wastewater, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in construction management, engineering, or related field is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, project management, and industry standards.
    • Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 30-Hour certification (preferred).
    • First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and walk long distances on job sites.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
